Pool Filter Cleaning & Replacement
Keep your pool water crystal clear with expert filter maintenance and replacement services.

Why Your Filter Is Critical
Your pool filter is the hardest working piece of equipment you own. It runs for hours every single day, pulling water through and trapping dirt, debris, oils, and microscopic particles that you cannot even see. Without a properly functioning filter, your pool water would turn cloudy and dirty within days, no matter how many chemicals you add.
Here in Brownsville, filters work extra hard because of our climate. Dust from dry periods, pollen in spring, and debris from summer storms all put extra strain on your filtration system. Many pool owners do not realize their filter needs regular cleaning until their water starts looking dull or they notice the pump working harder than usual.
A clean filter is essential for maintaining crystal clear pool water and protecting your other equipment from damage. When your filter gets clogged, your pump has to work overtime, which can lead to expensive repairs down the road.
Filter Cleaning for Every Type
We service all three types of pool filters, and each one requires a different cleaning approach. Here is what we do for each type:
Sand Filters
Sand filters are the most common type in our area. We backwash your sand filter to reverse the water flow and flush out trapped debris. Over time, the sand itself breaks down and loses its filtering ability. We check the sand condition and let you know when it is time for a sand change, which is typically every 3 to 5 years.
Cartridge Filters
Cartridge filters use pleated paper elements that trap particles as water flows through. We remove the cartridges, spray them down with a special cleaning solution, and rinse away all the built-up debris. Cartridges typically need cleaning every 4 to 6 weeks and replacement every 1 to 2 years depending on use.
DE (Diatomaceous Earth) Filters
DE filters provide the finest level of filtration but require the most maintenance. We backwash the filter, clean the grids, and recharge it with fresh DE powder. These filters give you the clearest water possible but need professional servicing to work correctly.
No matter which type you have, proper filter maintenance goes hand in hand with our weekly pool cleaning service to keep your water in perfect condition.
Signs Your Filter Needs Replacement
Even with regular cleaning, filters do not last forever. Here are the warning signs that it is time for a replacement:
- Water stays cloudy even after cleaning and balancing chemicals
- Filter pressure gauge shows high pressure even after backwashing
- Visible cracks, tears, or damage to cartridges or grids
- Your filter is more than 5 years old for sand or 2 years for cartridges
- Water flow is weak even with a clean filter
We can assess your filter condition during a pool inspection service and help you decide if cleaning or replacement is the better option. Sometimes a thorough cleaning brings a filter back to life, while other times replacement is the smarter investment.
